Most people who are as attractive, witty and intelligent as I am are usually conceited.

About

Who am I, what do I do?

I am a published author, having written for children, teenagers and adults.

My first publishing success came in the 1980/90s, when I was a regular contributor to a range of children's and teenage magazines published by DC Thomson – of Beano fame.

From there, I graduated to writing comedy for TV and radio, scripting gags and sketches for many performers.  I've had material broadcast both in the UK (BBC, ITV, S4C, Radio 2, Radio 4 and The World Service) and mainland Europe.

A former criminal lawyer, I divide my time between writing fiction – primarily comedy and crime – and legal journalism.  I’m also a semi-professional magician and member of the world-famous Magic Circle.

I’ve performed around the country and as far away as India – for both children and adults – on stage, around tables, and even on radio and TV. I’ve won awards – notably the Cecil Lyle Award for magical creation, and the Hoffmann Memorial Award for research into magic. I also lecture on magic, and have written several books for magicians.

Having earned a performance qualification with distinction from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (the oldest specialist drama school in the British Isles), I’m an experienced after-dinner speaker and have performed stand-up comedy across my home county of Yorkshire and at the Edinburgh Fringe.
